The BearExtender n3 is a simple plug 'n' play USB WiFi adapter (now fully 64-bit compatible) that works with Apple Macs, achieving up to a fourfold increase in WiFi range. It is compatible with Macs running the following versions of MacOS:

• 10.3 Panther,
• 10.4 Tiger,
• 10.5 Leopard,
• 10.6 Snow Leopard or
• 10.7 Lion

How it works

BearExtender n3 is basically a high power WiFi receiver/transmitter with a maximum of 700mW output power. Compare that with 32mW power output of the AirPort card included in your Mac. The power of this radio output combined with an external antenna with 2dBi gain makes it possible for the BearExtender n3 to achieve up to 2-4 times the range of your current wireless card. (Approximately twice for AirPort Extreme and four times the range for the original AirPort 11Mbps card).

The BearExtender n3 is a standalone WiFi adapter and can be used with any Apple Macintosh computer, including those that do not have built-in AirPort cards such as the older G3 towers, iMacs and PowerMacs. The BearExtender n3 ships with its own software that works in a similar fashion to the Apple AirPort software. It handles:

• scanning for networks
• add favourite networks and
• making connections.

It comes with a padded clip so that it can be conveniently attached to the LCD screen of your Mac.

Latest drivers and software

The BearExtender n3 ships with a CD containing the software and drivers required for all the supported Macs. The latest drivers and software are also available from the BearExtender Support Page.

Why "Bear" Extender?

The device was designed by University of California, Berkeley graduate, Roland Saekow and on that campus the WiFi networks were called "AirBears" - hence the BearExtender.
